The Easter Picture
In a couple of days, children across America will be anxiously awaiting the coming of the Easter Bunny, loading their baskets full of all kinds of goodies. It's an innocent child's excitement that brings such joy to the parent as they plan out the gifts they will put in their little one's baskets. This is one more holiday tradition where children look forward to the "person" or "animal" in the case of the Easter bunny, coming and making their dreams come true, regardless that they have never seen them or have no way of knowing much a/b them other than in the books they read or the songs they sing.
This is the picture of the Christian life. As Christians, we are anxiously awaiting the return of Jesus. Sadly, though, the picture isn't as perfect as the story of the Easter Bunny. It seems as if we've lost that childlike innocence and excitement about His return. True excitement brings about action. Children are repeatably told that they must be "good" little boys and girls, b/c Santa or the Easter Bunny is watching them. They want to get their goodies so bad, they are willing to do all they can to make sure it happens. Are we, as Christians, willing to do all we can to make sure we go to Heaven?? And not only ourselves, but our family and friends as well??
Friday is Good Friday and Sunday is Easter. If Jesus hadn't had a perfect love for us, there would be no Easter and our children would have no examples of gift-giving or sacrifice to grow up with. Let's make this year the year that we get back to that innocence where we actually get excited about doing what we need to do.
